Your Big Sky, MT, Itinerary for Winter

During the winter, Gallatin County offers unbelievable excitement everywhere you turn. Gaze at the fresh blanket of snow and enjoy the ultimate winter getaway

Day 1 – Arrival

Hot Tub at The Wilson Hotel

You did it! You’ve arrived at The Wilson Hotel in Big Sky. Check-in with our friendly and accommodating staff at the front desk and get your key to your new home away from home. After you get settled in your new digs, make your way down to our lobby bar and enjoy a pre-dinner cocktail and appetizer. You deserve it! After all, you are on vacation!

When your stomach begins to growl, pay a visit to Copper, our excellent on-site restaurant. Their Happy Hour menu is available every day from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and features outstanding deals, like their $5 Moscow Mule. Their dinner menu has it all—shareable snacks, fresh salads, hot soups, burgers, steaks, and more! We highly recommend the beer battered fried pickles and grilled tenderloin filet.

After your delectable meal, end the evening by relaxing in our outdoor hotub. The air might be brisk, but the steam and warmth of the hot tub will keep you cozy. Then it’s time for a relaxing night of sleep before your Big Sky adventure!

Day 2 – Big Day at Lone Mountain Ranch

Start your day off on the right foot by exploring the backcountry with Lone Mountain Ranch, which offers day passes for cross-country skiing. This activity is suitable for people of all ages and skill levels, so it’s the perfect activity for the whole family!

After your snowy expedition, return to town and relax for a bit. You’re in for an evening of fun-filled entertainment!

Return to Lone Mountain Ranch tonight and reserve a spot on one of their famous sleigh ride dinners. You’ll embark on a ride in a horse-drawn sleigh up to their oil-lantern-lit North Fork cabin, where you’ll enjoy a family-style prime-rib dinner while being serenaded by live music.

Day 3 – Ski and Sip

Wake up and head to Big Sky Resort, where you’ll find some of the best skiing opportunities in America. You can look forward to over 5000 skiable acres and 4000 vertical feet among the resort’s four mountains. They also provide 36 lifts and over 300 runs. Whether you’re new to the sport or you’re an expert skier, the area has something for everyone.

After a high-speed day of skiing, you’ll want to relax at one of our local breweries and sip on a refreshing beverage. One of our favorite nearby breweries is Beehive Basin Brewery. They offer a collection of staple beers and a few seasonal brews, such as their Nitro Stout. Beehive Basin doesn’t serve food at this point, but the establishment allows its patrons to order-in! Choose from various nearby takeout joints in Town Center to create your perfect brew and food pairing.

Day 4 – Dog Sledding and Dinner

By this point in your Big Sky vacation, you’ll probably be ready to give your legs a rest for a bit. What better way to rest your legs than to let skilled dogs pull you on a sled? When it comes to dog sledding in Big Sky, there are two top-notch outfitters to choose between—Spirit of the North Sled Dog Adventures and Yellowstone Dog Sled Adventures. There’s nothing like being pulled on a sled through a winter wonderland of majestic mountains with a team of powerful huskies leading the way. It’s a thrilling experience that you’ll never forget!

After dog sledding, spend a wonderful evening at Mountain Village. Mountain Village is located directly at the base of Lone Peak and is Big Sky Resort’s hub for lodging, dining, shopping, and more. One of the best eateries to unwind after an eventful day is Carabiner Lounge. This restaurant is known for its spectacular views of Lone Peak paired with a delicious global-inspired menu.

Day 5 – Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone Snowmobile Tours

No trip to Big Sky is complete without a trip to Yellowstone National Park! The Wilson Hotel is only about 50 miles from the park, and it takes about an hour to get there. One of the best things to do at Yellowstone during the winter is a thrilling snowmobile tour to Old Faithful. Two Top Snowmobile Tours is in West Yellowstone and provides guided tours and affordable snowmobile rental options.

If you want to spend more time in Yellowstone National Park, some of the best winter activities to enjoy in the park includsnowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and wildlife watching

Day 6 – Spa and Shop

Wow—what an exciting stay you’ve had in Big Sky so far! We recommend taking a slower approach to this day and savoring the rest of your trip. You can renew and revitalize your body at Solace Spa and Salon. Solace offers its guests expert body treatments, facials, massages, and salon services. For the ultimate spa day, we recommend their Gallatin River Hot Stone Massage.

After your out of this world spa experience, spend some time strolling through Big Sky Town Center. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a delicious meal and go shopping for souvenirs to remember your trip.

End your final evening in Big Sky with an epic night of headlamp night skiingThis unique experience is unlike anything else you’ve ever done before. Your escapade begins as the sun starts to set over Lone Peak and continues into the night, as countless stars illuminate the vast Montana sky. Your private guide will lead you up a chairlift with heated seats and a weather-proof bubble, and you’ll be given a state-of-the-art headlamp, which will illuminate your way down freshly groomed runs that you’ll have all to yourself.
