4 Seasons of Big Sky Weather

Big Sky Weather in Spring

fishingWhat is there to do in Big Sky, Montana, in the spring? It is a beautiful time of year as young spring leaves start to grow back after the long winter. During the day, the weather is usually mild and sunny, with temperatures reaching anywhere from 30˚-50˚F. At night it is still cold, with temperatures around 17˚-30˚F. It’s the wetter part of the year with days of snow, rain, and a mix of both, usually during April-June. It’s a good idea to bring a warm jacket and wear layers to adjust to the changing temperatures.

Some winter activities are still great, but you can also enjoy hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and wildlife watching in the nicer weather. If you’re looking for a more relaxed experience, you can check out the art galleries, shops, and restaurants in Town Center and sprint events. Yellowstone National Park is nearby, so you can explore abundant wildlife, geothermal features, and gorgeous views.

Big Sky Weather in Summer

The summertime is typically sunny and mild, with temperatures ranging from 60˚-80˚F during the day. At night the temperatures average around 40˚F. The climate is generally the driest part of the year, and the humidity is low, with occasional rain and thunderstorms. We recommend light layers for changing weather conditions. Due to Big Sky’s elevation, it is a good idea to wear sunscreen with UV protection for higher elevations no matter what time of year you come, but especially in the summer when it’s guaranteed, there are more sunny days. But also, ensure you stay hydrated to avoid elevation sickness if you’re not used to higher elevation. Water is excellent, but fluids with electrolytes are even better.

There are plenty of fun things in Big Sky during the summer. Along with spring activities, white water rafting, ziplining, and horseback riding are great to do in the summer. Or you can also explore the area’s many parks, lakes, and scenic trails. Other great ideas for activities are golfing or shopping at the Farmer’s Market.
