Day 1 – Whitewater Rafting
You’ve arrived in Big Sky! You’re in for the experience of a lifetime. Start your getaway off on the right foot with an outstanding whitewater rafting adventure. You’ll feel like you’re in a whole new world as you paddle down the river and look at the scenic views that surround you. There are various local rafting outfitters to choose from, and some of our favorites are Montana Whitewater Rafting and Zipline Tours and Geyser Whitewater Expeditions. They both offer full and half-day trips down the infamous Gallatin River.
After a day spent on the water, unwind in the evening with a handcrafted cocktail and mouthwatering meal at Copper, a whisky bar and grill connected to our hotel.
Day 2 – Horseback Riding
Take a day to enjoy the backcountry of Big Sky by horseback. There are several local horseback riding outfitters to choose from, with friendly and knowledgeable tour guides eager to show you the ropes. The tours offered will take you through vast fields, mountain peaks, national parks and forests, and more. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced rider, you’re sure to find an expedition that’s perfect for you.
Every cowboy or cowgirl should end their day with a refreshing ice-cold beer. After horseback riding, head to one of the nearby breweries. Beehive Basin Brewery is located in the popular Big Sky Town Center and offers seasonal brews and scenic mountain views.
Day 3 – Hiking
If you’re a nature lover, Big Sky is the perfect place for you. The amount of hiking trails in the area is nearly endless, and there’s always somewhere to explore. If you’re up for a challenging hike with rewarding vista views, try Lone Mountain Trail. You’ll fight your way up steep inclines and rocky surfaces until you reach Lone Peak, the best vantage point in all of Montana. If you’re looking for a leisurely hike that’s perfect for the whole family, Ousel Falls Park Trail is the right pick.
Did you know that many of the trails in the area are pet-friendly? If you don’t want to leave your pup behind when you go on vacation, we’ve got you covered. The Wilson Hotel is happy to offer pet-friendly accommodations. We even provide a Dog Days in the Mountains Package, complete with a map to dog-friendly hiking trails, a $10 gift certificate to Beehive Basin Brewery (dog-friendly), and a doggy welcome package with treats, toys, bones, pick-up bags, a travel water bowl, and more!
Day 4 – Golf
Treat yourself to a day on the green and work on your swing at a Big Sky golf course. Big Sky Resort offers a gorgeous public golf course that Arnold Palmer designed. The resort provides an array of clinics, group lessons, individual lessons, and junior lessons. We also recommend Cottonwood Hills Golf Course and Bridger Creek Golf Course in Bozeman, offering picture-perfect landscapes.
After your athletic day, you’ll want to sit back and relax. Take advantage of our onsite outdoor pool and hot tub at The Wilson Hotel. When you treat yourself to a steamy soak, your muscles will thank you!
Day 5 – Day Trip to Yellowstone National Park
One of the best parts about staying at The Wilson Hotel is that you’re located less than an hour away from Yellowstone National Park. After you check out of the hotel and make your way home, take a day trip to the closest area of the park—West Yellowstone. If you want to create a checklist of must-see landmarks in the park, we recommend including Old Faithful, the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Yellowstone Lake, and Midway Geyser Basin.
