It’s the wetter part of the year with days of snow, rain, and a mix of both, usually during April-June. It’s a good idea to bring a warm jacket and wear layers to adjust to the changing temperatures.
Some winter activities are still great, but you can also enjoy hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and wildlife watching in the nicer weather. The climate is generally the driest part of the year, and the humidity is low, with occasional rain and thunderstorms. We recommend light layers for changing weather conditions. Due to Big Sky’s elevation, it is a good idea to wear sunscreen with UV protection for higher elevations no matter what time of year you come, but especially in the summer when it’s guaranteed, there are more sunny days. But also, ensure you stay hydrated to avoid elevation sickness if you’re not used to higher elevation. Water is excellent, but fluids with electrolytes are even better.
There are plenty of fun things in Big Sky during the summer. Along with spring activities, white water rafting, ziplining, and horseback riding are great to do in the summer. They can even get down to the teens at night, so bring your warm coat. Layering your clothing is also a good idea.
There are lots of fun fall activities like going to the hot springs, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and seeing the beautiful fall colors in the forests in the national parks.
